The Ochoa Difference...

Well, our worst fears have been realized! Joe Ochoa is back as Mayor of Edinburg. This time he has brought a cohort to his side in Gus Garcia. Don't get me wrong. I'm old enough to understand that perception is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe these men aren't as bad as their rivals paint them out to be. Or maybe not!

I make a plea to the upcoming administration. Please! No white elephant projects. Please, no inflated engineering fees to your buddies. Please, no dead-beat workers on the city's payroll. Yeah, yeah! This is falling on deaf ears. Anyway, I'm pleading.

Unlike the hack that is Edinburg News (blog) we will continue to be here. Ever vigilant, ever opinionated. Praising the good, slamming the bad and always looking for intelligent factual discourse. I'm challenging Joe Ochoa & Gus Garcia, to start blogs, to interact with their citizens. It won't happen... I don't think they care.

Take heart. Political blogging in Edinburg is still new. Back when Joe was mayor, nobody was blogging. These days, he has to be aware that people are watching. The same holds true of other politicians throughout the RGV.

Valley bloggers should really try and get a blogging community going, in a similar format to dailykos.com. Soapblox.net is a pretty good starting point for newbies to "community blogging."

People have to register to comment and they have the opportunity to post their own content in "diaries" displayed on the sidebars of the site. Visitors "recommend" certain posts, thereby giving other people a better chance of seeing their post.

It's worth thinking about...

"Last night at Fast Eddie's we had Gilbert Gracia Jr so drunk that he hit a female member of the Ochoa Campaign."

Junkbox,
This is the headlines on E-News site. Never mind the part about him hitting a girl, but the part that says "we had him so drunk" is more disturbing than the assault. This is coming from a blog site that cares for our city and taxpayers? What if he would have killed somebody on the road? Why
would anybody brag about this binge drinking (E-News admits they got him so drunk)
I am forwarding a copy of this to MADD and to TABC. Hopefully they can find out who was trying to put our community in danger. E-News is showing their colors.

Well, I think it is clear what my opinion of the people at E-News is.

Denise,

We need to put all local politicians to blog. If not them have their glorified staff do it for them. It's a great tool to communicate with the constituency!

This is extremely refreshing. To see people involved in politics. None of this would be possible without blogs. It makes it easy to become involved. With all the bad press the internet is and has received this is one area that is extremely welcomed.
Keep up the great work guys, and stay involved!
